Youtube AR Tutorial - 100% Free!

Image
I did it. I finally made a tutorial on the internet! In around six minutes you can learn to make an AR gallery, as a webpage, no app install, that runs on IOS and Android, all for free. Blender is free, ModelViewer is free, Glitch.com is free https://www.blender.org/ https://modelviewer.dev/ https://glitch.com/ and here's me, super caffinated, telling you how to do it Create a scene In Blender, first enable the import images as planes addon (if it isn’t already) Preferences -> Addons -> Search “Images” -> enable. Make a scale reference Arrange Images and Models Export everything except the scale reference as a GLB file Go to https://modelviewer.dev/editor/ Upload the model Download the scene Download the loading image poster Go to glitch.com Log in or create an account Make a new blank project Name it something you like Delete every file Upload every file you downloaded from ModelViewer Fix references 1.) go to each asset like the loading poster 2.) click it, c...

Really tightening up the ole brand.

Hooboy I got a lot of shit going on. I have a youtube, I have a soundcloud (largely dormant) artstation. I have my own linktree, and I have a carrd, and I need to make sure they all link to eachother, and here? I guess. From the future: Also wow, I have made some cringey posts on here. This is my personal blog. If I wanna tighten it up.... who is that for? Do I wanna be professional? Cause I feel like I have definitely grown since then. I don't want to be marketable, necessarily, but I also want to say I no longer stand by a lot of the crap I said.

I was today years old...

When I learned that most application processing softwares drop resumes with hyperlinks in them. Looks like it's back to the drawing board for 'ole Emmett.

Fuck your Metaverse and fuck your tokens

Image
Man I am sick of hearing about this shit. I do think the metaverse is inevitable (and I am stoked for it) but the way everyone is talking about it is all wrong. Why buy things in the metaverse? Firstly let's talk about real estate. places like Metaverse Properties have begun brokering real estate deals in people's various platforms. This is stupid for three reasons. Being in a space in the real world has value for a number of reasons. You'll have a presence that people can see from the street. People will see you exist getting dog-food, on their commutes or hanging out downtown on late nights. You could be next to other cool businesses or locations and the cross-polination of foot traffic could benefit you both. Lastly the exclusivity of space that means your competitor can't inhabit that spot. In existing metaverse type platforms it operates far more like a game than real life. If you want to go someplace you open up a search bar, type the place you wanna go, select ...

A-frame adventures

I started messing around with A-frame for work, but now I am developing in my own time. Slowly over time My work became my play, and my cells became cancerous. So I got that tumor sucked out of my skull and a heap of MRI data to play with! Also I started a Patreon with my bosses at work, and it's slowly been picking up steam! The fightertest example there is a project that myself and three other engineers are playing with. I am making the game I have always wanted, a bridge simulator bursting with character that you can experience with your friends! If you'd like to see some cool art and come along for the ride, please check us out at our Patreon page. 3Dscans FighterTest brainframe All of these are really awesome viewed full size on your phone. Cause you can put them in AR mode! I made a website tutorial on how to make stuff like this. Check it out here! https://how2ar.carrd.co/

Stereoscopic Video - a metadata NIGHTMARE

Image
We start our innocent journey with the sale of my Zedd camera from Stereolabs. I was under the impression I could use it as a camera to make stereoscopic VR content, but that was not the case. Also, their software would hiccup during videogrammetry capture making some bizarre torn and overlapping hellscapes. So there I was with four hundred bucks, and the desire for a new camera. But hark! What's this? The Qoocam from Kandao, makers of other hilariously expensive camera rigs has made a small portable convertable 360/Stereoscopic camera! Sold.   I wanted to incorporate 4-channel, spatialized audio into my recordings. The desktop application that Kandao made to take the raw capture and turn it into uploadable VR content doesn't have a way to incorporate off-camera audio. So we fall back on my old friend, Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum. (they should have stuck with the name VEGAS, it's way more catchy.) So there I was in my timeline with the new audio synced up. I wa...

Slippery circles: Vuforia, Tee Shirts, and computers being picky.

Image
Recently, I was tasked with producing a graphic for a shirt that would be visible with Vuforia, and have an augmented reality game overlayed on top of it. This is all fine and good, except the logo that I made for my company earlier looks like this. Glimmer Technologies in some of its splendor. So this image tracks well when evaluated by the Vuforia algorithm. From one to five, it's a four. It does this by making a greyscale image and finding unique contrast points in the image like so. Now, this presents some issues for a teeshirt. We were getting these shirts screen printed which means they have to lay down one color at a time. Moreover, screens cannot print in a gradient, unless that gradient is produced in halftones. This is a crappy quality image of the awesome work that Threadbare did printing our logo. They had to send our logo to a guy to make a color separation, which then could be fed into their machines which can make halftoned screens of each color. ...
